“Difference is not Abnormal”

 “Difference is not Abnormal.”

The Psychology system (theories, diagnosis, techniques, etc.) was developed without consideration of people from racial and culturally diverse communities.

As the stigma of mental health within these communities declines and routes of access rise, psychology has not adjusted to the diverse needs and experiences of the changing population.

Lack of adjustment to cultural differences unfortunately results in medical trauma through inaccurate diagnosis, ineffective treatment, and stigmatized labelling.

Psychology uses research to learn and grow, but unfortunately every year hundreds of Minority-focused studies are incomplete due to lack of culturally diverse contributors to research.

Minds Over Melanin provides a protected space for Black and Brown people to share their stories and experiences to guide the reform of psychology into a new mental health system that is designed for and by racial and cultural inclusivity and equity.

As we prepare for therapy, therapy should be prepared for us.
